Frustrating night for TinCaps

No one had to share the disappointment of Friday's 5-4 loss to South Bend with TinCaps shortstop Jace Peterson. He sat in front of his locker with his head down and his arms on his head.

While there was plenty of blame to spread around the clubhouse room for the TinCaps' loss, Peterson was probably thinking of what could have been. With the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Peterson, who watched the two batters in front of him reach on four-ball walks, swung at the first pitch and grounded meekly to the South Bend third baseman.

It was part of a frustrating night for the TinCaps (19-14, 50-53), who could have reached the .500 plateau the night before, but instead find themselves three games below the level when they begin a three-game series with Great Lakes on Saturday at Parkview Field.

On a positive note, Yeison Asencio went 4 for 5 with two doubles, and back-up catcher Matt Colantonio went 3 for 4, including a double and a run scored.

The scheduled TinCaps starter on Saturday is Ruben Mejia (1-4, 4.44 ERA).
