Man convicted of killing bound couple

TOLEDO, Ohio – A 24-year-old man has been convicted of killing a young couple found in a suburban Toledo home with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound with tape.

A Lucas County Common Pleas jury found Samuel Williams guilty Friday of two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of kidnapping a single count of aggravated burglary.

The jury will now hear more evidence and advise the judge on whether he should get the death penalty or life in prison.

The jury deliberated more than seven hours before convicting Williams of the Jan. 30, 2011, slayings of 20-year-old Lisa Straub and 21-year-old Johnny Clarke. Authorities have said they were killed in a robbery gone awry.

On Thursday, a judge dismissed charges against a second defendant because of lack of evidence.
