Irish land running back recruit

Notre Dame added a running back to its recruiting class for 2013.

Jamel James orally committed to the Irish on Saturday, according to a report from Irish Sports Daily.

The 5-foot-11, 220-pounder from Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas, is rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com, 247Sports.com and ESPN. He is rated a three-star running back by Rivals.com.

James ran for 1,011 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior for Cinco Ranch.

He had initially committed to Arkansas, but he backed out of the pledge after coach Bobby Petrino was fired.

James also had offers from Florida State, Houston, LSU, Texas Tech, USC and West Virginia, according to Irish Sports Daily.

James' commitment pushed the Irish's class for 2013 to 18. The list includes Bishop Luers linebacker Jaylon Smith.
