Yeison Asencio went 5 for 5 with four RBI for Fort Wayne in a 12-7 victory against Great Lakes in front of 5,053 fans Sunday at Parkview Field.
Asencio finished a triple shy of the cycle. He was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple in the sixth inning.
Here are the highlights.
Big day: Asencio doubled in the first, hit a solo home run in the third and singled in the fifth. He added the second double in the sixth and then singled in eighth. He is the second Fort Wayne player in a week to have five hits in a game. Mike Gallic went 5 for 5 Thursday against South Bend.
Not alone: Jace Peterson, Gallic, Lee Orr and Travis Jankowski added to the big offensive day. Each player had two hits. Peterson hit a three-run home run, his second of the year. His first was also against Great Lakes (on April 12).
Season highs: The TinCaps had a season-high nine extra-base hits (seven doubles, two home runs). Fort Wayne matched season highs in hits (16) and doubles (seven).
Rare off day: Matt Wisler gave up four runs on four hits in four innings and did not factor in the decision. He had allowed four runs in his previous four starts (22 2/3 innings).
Lee Smith coming to town: Former Chicago Cubs closer Lee Smith will be at Parkview Field on Monday as part of the Principal Financial Dreams Tour.
"He goes up there swinging. He's not taking too many pitches. Everything he saw was a strike and he's hitting it hard. He's getting some clutch hits."
