Police: Ohio woman shoots husband, kills self

TORONTO, Ohio (AP) — Police say an eastern Ohio woman shot her husband and then killed herself as officers closed in.

The Steubenville Herald-Star reports that it happened Monday in the small town of Toronto, near the border of Ohio and West Virginia.

Toronto Police Chief Randy Henry said 24-year-old Martha Dear shot her husband, 26-year-old Terry Dear, in the back during a struggle and then fled the home. The couple's two small children were there at the time but were unharmed.

Henry said Martha Dear then killed herself with a shot to the chest as officers tried to stop her car in the nearby town of Mingo Junction.

Terry Dear survived and was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh.

Henry said he wasn't sure what they were arguing about before the shooting.
