SOUTH BEND — A Mishawaka dentist has donated $300,000 to Indiana University South Bend for a new dental education wing in a structure formerly known as the Associates Building.
The South Bend Tribune reports the donation was made by Dr. Roger Pecina, founder and owner of Afdent Dental Services. The school will name its dental education academic and clinical spaces the Roger S. Pecina Dental Educational Clinic and Afdent Classrooms.
IUSB has offered dental hygiene training for more than 40 years. The campus dental clinic offers low-cost oral health care for local residents in need, with services including cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays and sealants.
A $22 million renovation of the building is scheduled to be completed next summer. The building also will house the School of Education and fine arts programs.
