Irish ranked 24th in USA Today preseason poll

Notre Dame will open the season ranked in one college football poll.

The Irish were slotted No. 24 in the USA Today coaches poll, which was released Thursday.

Notre Dame finished last season 8-5 and wasn't ranked in the final USA Today poll after losing to Florida State 18-14 in the Champs Sports Bowl.

The Irish will face five opponents ranked in the preseason poll this year.

The close the season at No. 3 USC on Nov. 24, travel to play No. 4 Oklahoma on Oct. 27, play host to No. 8 Michigan on Sept. 22, play at No. 13 Michigan State on Sept. 15 and have a home game against No. 18 Stanford on Oct. 13.
