Fort Wayne had to settle for a split in its four-game series at South Bend as the Silver Hawks defeated the TinCaps 3-2 Friday at Coveleski Regional Stadium.
Jace Peterson, B.J. Guinn and Matt Colantonio each had two hits for the TinCaps (24-16, 55-55 overall).
Eric Groff and Kerry Jenkins were among the four South Bend (20-20, 55-55) players with two hits.
Groff knocked in two runs. Jenkins had the eventual game-winning RBI in the fifth inning.
The TinCaps won the first two games of the series, but the Silver Hawks took the final two.
Fort Wayne jumped ahead in Friday’s game with a run in the first inning.
Peterson led with a walk. Guinn followed with a single, moving Peterson to third. Mike Gallic drove in Peterson with a single to right field.
Fort Wayne added a run in the second. Colantonio led the inning with a single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a single by Peterson.
Groff had a two-run double in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
South Bendtook the lead in the fifth.
With one out, Matt Helm doubled to left.Fort Wayne starting pitcher Ruben Mejia struck out Ryan Court for the second out.
But Jenkins came through with a single to left, scoring Helm to make it 3-2.
Relievers Kable Hogben, Kaleb Fleck and Jake Barrett made the lead stand.Fort Wayne collected just four hits in the final four innings.
Peterson did single with two outs in the ninth inning. But Guinn grounded out to first to end the game.
Archie Bradley got the win to improve to 9-5. Mejia fell to 1-5.
Fort Wayne returns to Parkview Field today to begin a four-game series with Bowling Green.
