  • Women's volleyball picked 2nd in Summit
    The IPFW women’s volleyball was picked to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll of the league’s head coaches. The Mastodons received 53 points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

    The IPFW women's basketball's 2014-15 schedule is a challengng one, featuring seven opponents who played in the postseason last year, along with two games against Big Ten opponents, and a Big 12 opponent.

Mastodons release basketball schedule

IPFW released its the 2012-13 schedule for the men's basketball squad, a schedule that includes games against schools from 11 different conferences in the first 11 non-tournament contests of the season.

The year opens on Nov. 5 with an exhibition against Alma College at the Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m. The regular season opens in Auburn, Ala., on Nov. 9 where the Dons will play Auburn, which went 14-3 at home last year.

Back in Fort Wayne, IPFW plays host to Rochester College on Nov. 13, in the second game of a women's/men's doubleheader.

The Mastodons will get first-hand experience of playing in three straight games – similar to the Summit League Tournament's final three days – when the squad competes in the Eastern Michigan Tournament on Nov. 16, 17, and 18 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Another game at the Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 20, this time featuring the Judson Eagles at 7 p.m., sets the table for back-to-back road games, at Dartmouth on Nov. 24, and at the Naval Academy on Nov. 28.

December starts with IPFW's Homecoming on the first of the month against the Mid-American Conference's RedHawks of Miami at 7 p.m., which is followed by three consecutive road games. The first of the road contests is scheduled on Dec. 5 at Valparaiso, before a trip further west features the Dons against Drake.

After a week off for final exams, IPFW returns to action on Dec. 17 at Notre Dame before playing host to Kennesaw State at Memorial Coliseum on Dec. 21.

After the holiday break, the Mastodons open the 2012-13 Summit League season on Dec. 27 in Indianapolis against IUPUI before trekking west to Macomb, Ill., for the weekend-closing, and calendar year-ending contest against the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Dec. 29.

The new year opens at home with a Jan. 2 contest in a "Heroes Day" game against the Naval Academy at the Gates Sports Center at 7 p.m. Three days later Nebraska Omaha comes to town for a 2 p.m. tip at Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 5.

The first road trip of the new calendar year sends the Dons to the Dakotas, where they will face the Bison of North Dakota State (Jan. 10) and the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State (Jan. 12). The next two weekends keep IPFW in Fort Wayne with weekend series at Memorial Coliseum against South Dakota (Jan. 17) and UMKC (Jan. 19), and a Gates Center series against Western Illinois (Jan. 24) and IUPUI (Jan. 26).

The last five weeks of the year rotate between home and road contests, with the Mastodons traveling to Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 31 for a Summit League contest with the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha, before the team's final Gates Center weekend follows with on-campus games against South Dakota State (Feb. 7) and North Dakota State (Feb. 9).

A week later the Mastodons play in a Valentines-day contest at UMKC, before traveling to Vermillion, South Dakota for a Feb. 16 game against the Coyotes of South Dakota.

In the final home-week series of the season, the Mastodons play a mid-week game against the Oakland Grizzlies on Feb. 20, before playing host to 2013 Sears Bracketbuster contest on Feb. 23, which is also senior day.

The regular season closes on March 2 with a trip to Rochester, Michigan to take on Oakland, before traveling to Sioux Falls, S.D., for the 2013 Summit League Basketball Championships.
