  • Crossroads Classic extended through 2019
    The Crossroads Classic, a men's basketball event held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, has been extended through 2019, the athletic directors at Indiana, Butler, Purdue and Notre Dame announced Thursday.

Purdue wins Italian trip opener

Rapheal Davis scored 15 points to lead the Purdue men's basketball team to an 80-38 victory against All Star Italy in the opener of its four-game Italian tour Thursday in Rome.

Davis, who is from Fort Wayne, went 5 for 9 from the floor and made all four of his free throws. He also had two steals.

Donnie Hale posted a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.

Purdue went on a 14-1 run at the end of the first quarter to pull away. Purdue shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent (5 of 11) from three-point territory.

Junior forward Sandi Marcius finished with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Terone Johnson had nine points and three assists. Senior guard/forward D.J. Byrd and sophomore guard Anthony Johnson each went for eight points, and combined to shoot 4 for 7 (.571) from three-point range.

Freshman center A.J. Hammons had six rebounds and junior forward Travis Carroll finished with five. Senior guard Dru Anthrop had four of Purdue's 13 steals.

The Boilermakers return to action Sunday, when they face Atletas Kaunas in Montecatini, near Florence.
