The body of Thomas Haskins was a day away from being cremated – and his closest kin didn’t even know he was dead.A fire in the attic caused minor damage to a vacant house at 708 Greenlawn, according to a Fort Wayne Fire Department report.
Firefighters were called at 11:58 p.m. to the tow-story house and found smoke coming from the roof, the report said. Crews searched the home but found no one inside. The fire was found in the attic and brough under control in 16 minutes.
No injuries were reported. The house had minor fire and water damage, and moderate smoke damage, the report said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
