TinCaps win in Dayton, avoid sweep

Fort Wayne used a wild sixth inning to rally and beat Dayton 6-3 Monday at Fifth Third Field.

The TinCaps entered the sixth trailing 3-2. Yeison Asencio and Lee Orr reached on singles. Austin Hedges bunted, and pitcher Stalin Gerson made a throwing error. Asencio scored to tie the game at 3.

Hedges later scored on a wild pitch by reliever Carlos Gonzalez to give the TinCaps the lead. Gonzalez threw another wild pitch in the inning, allowing Kyle Gaedele to score to put the TinCaps ahead 5-3.

James Jones struck out six in three shutout relief innings to earn the win and help Fort Wayne (29-21, 60-60 overall) avoid a three-game sweep.
