Homicide victim is man, 21

Investigators identified the man who was shot and killed early Saturday at an apartment on the city’s south side.

Cortez Antonio Harris, 21, of Fort Wayne, died from a gunshot wound or wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, the Allen County Coroner’s Office said in a statement.

Police responded to the 500 block of Birchtree Lane, near Paulding Road and Fairfield Avenue, about 12:30 a.m. and found Harris lying on the ground.

Neighbors told investigators they heard one shot and then found Harris in the parking lot of Coventry Court Townhomes, police had previously said.

Harris died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.

Police said they have no suspects or motive in the slaying.

Harris’ death marks the 22nd homicide this year in Fort Wayne and Allen County.
