Fire badly damaged several buildings Friday near the courthouse square in Greencastle, with flames shooting through the roofs as firefighters from several communities were called in to the central Indiana city to help.GARY — The city of Gary is offering gift cards worth $50 to $100 for guns as a way to try to prevent violence.
The Post-Tribune reports police officers will be at nine churches Saturday giving out Wal-Mart gift cards. People bringing in handguns will receive $50 in gift cards. Shotguns are worth $75 and assault-type rifles are worth $100.
Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram says people will be allowed to turn in the weapons anonymously.
He says the buyback program isn't restricted to Gary residents. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT.
