Fort Wayne plays game two of a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. today against Lansing. The scheduled starters are Ruben Mejia for the TinCaps and Noah Syndergaard for the Lugnuts. Here are some notes from the team: Last game:

Fort Wayne used a season-high-tying 16 hits, coupled with a season-worst-tying four errors by Lansing, to cruise to a 9-1 win. Colin Rea earned his fifth win of the season, Austin Hedges hit his 10th home run and Travis Whitmore knocked in three runs.

Two games:

A win today would bring the TinCaps season record two games over the .500 mark for just the second time all season. After finishing the first half with a 31-39 mark, the highest Fort Wayne has risen above .500 was a 55-53 record on August 1st.

Season high:

The 16 hits by the TinCaps in Wednesday night’s win tied aseason high. Fort Wayne had picked up 16 hits in one other game, a 12-1 victory over the Kane County Cougars on April 20th at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Team lead:

After Lee Orr’s August 10th blast at Parkview Field gave him the most home runs on the team with 10, Austin Hedges tied that mark with a solo home run Wednesday night. They are tied for the team’s home run lead. In 2011, Midwest League MVP Rymer Liriano led the team with 12 home runs.

Where they stand:

With 19 regular-season games remaining, the TinCaps have a grasp on a playoff spot. They currently lead all qualifying teams in the second half, with Lake County 2 1/2 games back as the closest competition. South Bend is next-closest, 4 1/2 games behind Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne’s streak of three consecutive playoff seasons is only matched by Kane County, which has also made the playoffs for three straight years.

Second-half hitting:

After swinging the bats to a league-worst .234 average in the first half, Fort Wayne has received more production through 50 second-half games. In the second half, the TinCaps have hit .267 (436/1631). Fort Wayne’s team average of .248 is 12th in the 16-team Midwest League.
