Fort Wayne jobless rate drops slightly in July

While many metro areas saw unemployment inch up last month, Fort Wayne bucked the trend as joblessness dipped slightly to 7.6 percent in July from 7.7 percent in June, according to figures released today by Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The Fort Wayne metropolitan area consists of Allen, Whitley and Wells counties. Unemployment was 8.9 percent a year ago in July. Statewide, the seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 8.2 percent in July, compared to 8 percent in June.
