Traffic stop leads to 22 pounds of heroin

CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Authorities said they’ve seized nearly 22 pounds of heroin that was hidden inside a car stopped on Interstate 70 in eastern Indiana.

Officials said the 30 packages of heroin were found stashed within the passenger compartment and trunk of the car when it was checked by a search dog after a police officer stopped it for a traffic violation near the Wayne County town of Cambridge City.

The 23-year-old driver from California was arrested, and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agent Dennis Wichern tells the Palladium-Item of Richmond (http://pinews.co/OqAIlJ) that three others were arrested in the Columbus, Ohio, area, where the drugs with an estimated $1.5 million street value were headed.

Wichern said the car was stopped Tuesday, but details weren’t immediately released to allow agents time to investigate in Ohio.
