Charges dropped in 1985 killing

WAUSEON, Ohio – Prosecutors in Ohio are dropping charges against a Tennessee man in the fatal beating of a girl in northwest Ohio in 1985 just a month after his trial ended in a hung jury.

Ohio officials agreed on Monday to dismiss murder charges against 45-year-old Walter Zimbeck of Strawberry Plains, Tenn.

Zimbeck was 18 when the body of his 14-year-old former girlfriend, Lori Ann Hill, was found after a party near Toledo. He was accused of the killing in 2009 after a detective looked into the cold case.

Jurors spent three days deliberating the case in July before deciding they could not come up with a verdict.
