Update issued at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday:
All lanes of the Toll Road that were closed earlier due to the truck fire are now open.
Update issued at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday:
At this time east bound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road are open. The west bound driving lane remains closed for approximately 1 mile around the 58 mile marker, however, the passing lane is open. The entire west bound lane may be closed periodically as cleanup continues. The truck that caught on fire has to have the remaining diesel fuel and contents off loaded to another truck before it can be removed. The delay through the area at this time is approximately 5 minutes. A portion of the west bound driving lane may remain closed for several more hours. No further at this time.
From a report received 2:31 a.m. Tuesday from the Indiana State Police:
At this time both the east and west bound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road are closed down due to a fire at the 58 mile marker in Laporte County.
A semi tractor trailer hauling a flammable liquid has caught fire in the west bound lane.
There are no injuries reported and fire crews have the fire under control. At this time it is unknown what caused the fire.
The Toll Road will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time at this point until cleanup crews and officials deem the area safe.
