Rather stay home

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly professed his love for Ireland during a news conference Tuesday.

But while he likes the country, Kelly isn't too keen on the idea of playing a football game there to start the season.

Notre Dame opens the season against Navy on Sept. 1 in Dublin, Ireland.

"I'd rather play them right here," Kelly told reporters. "But it's going to be a great trip for our alums and all of those that follow us. It's going to be great for Ireland, and we're pleased about that.

"But as it relates to the game of football, I'd rather not travel six hours to go play them. Having said that, Navy is going to have to do the same thing, and we have to prepare the best we can for that situation."
