A Cromwell man lost the tip of his index finger after using an altered Ruger 22/45 MKII pistol Saturday evening, Indiana conservation officers said in a statement issued Tuesday.
The man, identified as Joseph Miretti, was at the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area shooting range near Syracuse about 5 p.m. when he was shooting and attempted to adjust his left hand while it was holding a mounted vertical foregrip, the statement said.
His index finger crossed the front of the muzzle and was struck by gunfire, conservation officers said. He was taken to an area hospital.
Conservation officers said the foregrip was not designed to be used in that manner and blamed its use for the injury.
