Off-road vehicle hits tree; 2 teens injured

An Angola teen was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital early Tuesday after a crash about 1:30 a.m. in rural DeKalb County.

The crash was on private property in the 200 block of County Road 55 near Hamilton, according to a statement issued by Indiana conservation officers.

It said the 17-year-old boy failed to negotiate a curve in a wooded area and the off-road vehicle struck one of the trees.

The driver and a 15-year-old boy were thrown from the vehicle and sustained head injuries, the statement said.

Both were taken by friends to a hospital in Angola, the statement said, and the 17-year-old later was flown to the Fort Wayne hospital.

Their conditions were not immediately available.
