I-69 closures to resume at bridge

FORT WAYNE – Work on Interstate 69 that was postponed earlier this month after a falling beam did damage at a construction site just north of Fort Wayne is scheduled to continue this week.

The Indiana Department of Transportation said Tuesday the northbound lanes of I-69 at the Union Chapel bridge will see brief, intermittent closures from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday while beams are being set.

Starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, the southbound lanes will see the same closures. The work is expected to be finished by 5 a.m. Friday.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department will assist with the stoppages, and barrels and arrow boards will direct drivers to the left lane before each stoppage starts. Drivers are encouraged to take different routes or plan with the delays in mind.

Each closure is expected to last no more than 20 minutes.
