Here are some from the TinCaps:
The TinCaps continue a seven-day road trip as they play game two of a three-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Despite an early 2-0 lead, the TinCaps fell behind 3-0 in the sixth inning on a three-run home run by West Michigan’s Zach Maggard, and were never able to recover. The 3-2 final sent Fort Wayne to its fourth straight defeat.
Over the last 43 innings, Fort Wayne has scored seven runs. In the last five games the TinCaps 3, 4 and 5 hitters in the lineup are batting a combined 9-55 (.163) with 18 strikeouts and five walks. While in the week of Aug. 12-18 the TinCaps bullpen allowed two runs in 22 2/3 innings, it has given up 14 runs in the past four games.
Fort Wayne has lost four in a row, its longest such streak since dropping four straight from July 6th to July 9th against Bowling Green and South Bend. On this current skid, the TinCaps have been outscored 25-7 and have hit .224 (30-134).
Designated hitter Mike Gallic has just one hit in his last eight games, going 1-30 (.033) and dropping his batting average from .309 to .285.
Since his August 15 return from the disabled list, Tyler Stubblefield is hitting .120 (3-25). Connor Powers played in his first game with Fort Wayne on Aug. 16th, and has gone 1-17 (.059) in his first five games.
Jace Peterson’s 50 stolen bases are the most in the Midwest League. Fort Wayne’s team record is 65, tied last year by MVP Rymer Liriano, and set in 1999 by Jeremy Owens.
Where They Stand:
With 12 regular-season games remaining, the TinCaps have a grip on a playoff spot. Fort Wayne would currently qualify as the Midwest League’s wild card team in the second half, as they trail Lake County by 1/2 game. West Michigan is next-closest, 2.0 games behind Fort Wayne.
After swinging the bats to a league-worst .234 average in the first half, Fort Wayne has received more production through 57 second-half games. In the second half, the TinCaps have hit .263 (478/1818). Fort Wayne’s team average of .249 is tied for 12th in the 16-team Midwest League.
