Statement as issued Tuesday by the Fort Wayne International Airport:
Fort Wayne, Ind. – The 2012 Air Show, hosted by the 122nd Indiana Air National Guard, is predicted to draw a large crowd to both the Guard Base and Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) over Labor Day weekend. Airport Authority officials would like to take this opportunity to alert passengers of road closures, working entrances, and heavy traffic.
FWA patrons are asked to enter the airport using only Ardmore Avenue between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 1-2. Ardmore Avenue, beginning at Airport Expressway, will be used for one-way traffic only - the left lane will be designated for airport patrons and the right lane will be used for air show parking.
To exit the airport, turn right on Ferguson Road and continue to Airport Drive or Bluffton Road.
"We are very excited about this event, and we hope everyone can join us for what is sure to be a great air show," said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. "However, we also want to be sure that our passengers know what to expect when they arrive at the airport. We are anticipating heavy traffic, so it is recommended to allow extra travel time to get to the terminal building."
Commercial air traffic will not be impacted and will operate a normal schedule during the air show. Typically, the airlines serving FWA recommend passengers arrive 90 minutes before their flight. Over Labor Day weekend, they recommend arriving two hours before departure.
For questions regarding the air show or getting to the airport, visit the FWA website at www.flyfwa.com or call the Airport Authority at 260-747-4146 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
