TinCaps rally past Lansing

The TinCaps will return to Parkview Field for a big series against West Michigan with a little breathing room in the race for the playoffs.

Fort Wayne scored four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to rally and beat Lansing 7-6 Tuesday at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The TinCaps pulled into a tie with Lake County for the top spot among eligible teams for the Eastern Division playoffs. The Captains lost to Great Lakes 6-5.

Lake County holds the tie-breaker, placing the TinCaps currently as the wild card.

Both teams lead West Michigan by two games. Dayton defeated the Whitecaps 9-3.

Lansing and Bowling Green qualified for the playoffs in the first half.

Lansing built a 5-1 lead against the TinCaps after four innings.

Yeison Asencio had a two-run single in during Fort Wayne's four-run fifth inning.

Travis Jankowski drove in Kyle Gaedele with a single in the sixth to give the TinCaps a 6-5 lead. B.J. Guinn scored when Jace Peterson grounded into a force out to make it 7-5.

The TinCaps begin a three-game series with West Michigan today. They finish the regular season with three games at Bowling Green.
