Sheri Miller Story, a survivor of inflammatory breast cancer, has been named the first full-time executive director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure's northern Indiana affiliate.
Story, of South Bend, has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit, government and campaign work, the South Bend-based organization said in a statement.
Among other positions, she has worked in state government, for Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota and at the Chamber of Commerce in St. Joseph County.
The affiliate serves 27 counties in northern Indiana. Since 2006, it has dispensed more than $600,000 in community health grants to organizations throughout its area for such services as mammograms, counseling, diagnostic services and bilingual education and awareness materials.
