White Sox’s Floyd on DL

– The White Sox put right-handed starter Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow flexor strain. The move is retroactive to Monday.

Floyd (9-9 with a 4.55 ERA) pitched two innings Sunday against Seattle before leaving with discomfort in his elbow. An MRI showed no structural damage.

Chicago recalled right-hander Dylan Axelrod from Triple-A and he will start today against Baltimore.

Chicago also assigned outfielder Alejandro De Aza (bruised ribs) to Charlotte on a rehabilitation assignment.

Cubs’ Castro gets 7-year deal

The Cubs and shortstop Starlin Castro agreed to a seven-year contract with a club option for 2020. Castro, 22, was batting .276 this season with 12 homers and 63 RBI.
