3 charged in credit card thefts

Three people are accused of stealing credit cards from vehicles in the Fort Wayne area and using them to make purchases.

Jeffrey Hargis, 30, Kevin Jett, 37, and Kristi Cooper, 30, were each charged this week with felony corrupt business influence.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released video surveillance images of people suspected of committing credit card fraud on April 16 at Meijer, 5909 Illinois Road. Sharing the images helped investigators identify Cooper as a suspect, according to court papers.

Cooper told investigators that Hargis and Jett broke into a vehicle and stole a credit card that she used to buy $200 worth of gift cards at Meijer that day. Cooper also said she and Hargis, her boyfriend, used the card to buy fuel in Auburn, court papers said.

Investigators have also linked Hargis, Jett and Cooper to similar thefts in the area, court papers said.

Hargis, of the 2400 block of Strathmore Drive, was being held Thursday at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Jett, of the 7200 block of Hickory Creek Drive, and Cooper, of the 600 block of Lower Huntington Road, have not been arrested.
