Fort Wayne could be receiving some local help for its playoff run.
Pitcher Brandon Alger, a Leo graduate who also pitched at Indiana Tech, could be joining the team for the playoff series against Lansing.
The left-handed pitcher went 4-1 with a 2.32 ERA for San Diego's Short-Season A team in Eugene (Ore.). He had 15 outings, five starts, for the Emeralds. He struck out36 and walked six in 42 2/3 innings.
"It's fair to say the expectation is that Brandon Alger will be on our roster," Fort Wayne President Mike Nutter said in a phone interview Monday.
A corresponding roster move needs to be made to make it official.
Alger was picked in the 26th round by San Diego in this year's draft.
Pitcher Joe Ross could also join the team if it advances to the second round.
Fort Wayne is home Wednesday against Lansing for Game 1 of the Eastern Division opening round series. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are at Lansing on Thursday and Friday.
Tickets for Wednesday's playoff game are on sale at the Parkview Field ticket office, online at TinCaps.com or by calling (260) 482-6400.
