A man and woman have been arrested and linked to an armed robbery of a gas station convenience store Friday afternoon in Leesburg, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said.

Before going into the store at the Freedom Express station, 201 N. Main St., the man filled his vehicle with gas. Once inside, he pulled a knife with a black handle and demanded money from a clerk, the sheriff's department said.

He left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk called 911 to report the holdup just before 1:30 p.m.

The getaway vehicle held a woman and two children.

A couple from Warsaw was being held Monday in the Whitley County Jail, the Kosciusko department said in a written statement issued Monday.

It said Christopher Alan Gressley, 30, and Anita Lynn Moore, 28, were arrested Friday evening and are being held on charges out of both counties.

The arrest originated about 6:40 p.m. Friday when South Whitley officers were investigating a stopped van just outside of town. Each adult had a suspended driver's license, Monday's statement said, and it said that two small children with them appeared to have not been taken care of properly. The children were taken into protective custody.

The statement said officers found synthetic marijuana and devices used to smoke the substance in the van, and the two were taken to the Whitley County Jail.

On Saturday, officials learned that Gressley and Moore two might have been involved in the Leesburg Freedom Express robbery. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department detectives went to the Whitley County Jail and interviewed the two, who confessed to the Leesburg armed robbery involvement, the statement said.

Each is being held on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, possession of a controlled substance/synthetic cannabinoid and possession of paraphernalia. Gressley was also charged with driving while suspended and has a bond of $27,500 while Moore has a bond of $24,000 in Whitley County.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's detectives also placed a hold on the couple as preliminary charges of felony robbery while armed with a deadly weapon are being issued by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office, the statement said.
