My daughter Lea grew pumpkins last year and gave me one. It was so cute and since my summer flowers were gone it fit perfectly perched on top of a tall planter on my back steps. When the weather got warm I planted my geraniums and watered daily in the summer heat.
A vine started growing along with the flowers and since it was pretty I let it grow. Before long it was climbing up and attaching itself to my trellis of ivy and clematis!
We were having dinner one weekend and I mentioned the vine and my daughter said, “You’re growing pumpkins!”
Couldn’t figure out how that had happened until I remembered when the weather got cold I was going to throw the pumpkin out and it turned to mush in my hands … so I left the seeds for the birds and squirrels! I guess they left me a few and they survived the winter! Even if I don’t get any pumpkins the daily orange flowers are beautiful!
