A man and woman from Warsaw, arrested during a traffic stop Friday in Whitley County, told police they were involved in the armed robbery of a Leesburg gas station.

Christopher A. Gressley and Anita L. Moore were arrested by South Whitley officers who had stopped their van just outside of town about 6:40 p.m. Friday, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said.

The two were taken into police custody after officers found synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the van and two small children who appeared unkempt and not taken care of, police said. The children were taken into protective custody.

On Saturday, police learned that Gressley and Moore might have been involved in a robbery at Leesburg Freedom Express.

Kosciusko County detectives went to the Whitley County Jail and interviewed the two, who admitted to their roles in the Leesburg holdup, police said in the statement.

Before going into the store Friday at the Freedom Express station, 201 N. Main St., Gressley filled his vehicle with gas. Once inside, he pulled a knife with a black handle and demanded money from a clerk, police said.

Gressley left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk called 911 to report the holdup about 1:30 p.m., authorities said.

Moore and Gressley are being held on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, possession of a controlled substance/synthetic cannabinoid and possession of paraphernalia.

Gressley was also charged with driving while suspended and has a bond of $27,500. Moore was being held in lieu of $24,000 bail in Whitley County.
