Travis Jankowski added two hits and two RBI.

Game 2 is Thursday in Lansing.

Here are the highlights.

Key hit: Jace Peterson placed a bunt down the third-base line. Pitcher Shawn Griffith fielded it cleanly and threw to third to try to get the lead runner. The throw went wide of Gustavo Pierre and down the left-field line. Stubblefield scored, giving the TinCaps a 3-2 lead.

On the mound: James Needy gave up two runs and struck out seven in five innings for the victory. He surrendered five hits. Four Fort Wayne relievers gave up three hits in the final four scoreless innings.

Local connection: Leo and Indiana Tech product Brandon Alger received a nice hand from the crowd when he entered in the seventh inning. The first two batters reached, but he struck out the next two to complete his first outing with the TinCaps.

Quotable:

"Our game is speed, running. Most of the guys on my team are pretty good runners. If you put the ball in play, put it in the ground and run hard, it puts pressure on the defense. Anything can happen."

- Fort Wayne manager Jose Valentin
