TinCaps lead after six innings

Fort Wayne leads Lansing 4-2 after six innings of Game 1 of the Eastern Division opening-round series Wednesday at Parkview Field.

The TinCaps took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning.

Kyle Gaedele led off with a walk. Tyler Stubblefield then singled to right, putting runners on the corners.

Travis Jankowski singled to left field on a 1-2 pitch, bringing home Gaedele to tie the game at 2.

Shawn Griffith replaced Lansing starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard. Jace Peterson placed a bunt down the third-base line. Griffith fielded it cleanly and threw to third to try to get the lead runner. The throw went wide of Gustavo Pierre and down the left-field line. Stubblefield scored, giving the TinCaps a 3-2 lead.

A pair of infield hits extended the lead in the sixth. With two outs and a runner on second, Stubblefield reached on an infield hit to third.

Austin Hedges moved to third on the hit. Jankowski then hit a slow grounder to short. He beat Shane Opitz's throw to first. Hedges scored on the play, making it 4-2.
