Manitowoc closing Fort Wayne ovens plant

To establish satellite support office in area

Manitowoc Foodservice said today it would close its Fort Wayne ovens plant, 1111 N. Hadley Road, by April 30 as part of a consolidation in Cleveland.

The number of employees affected was not disclosed. In December 2009, about 185 to 190 employees were expected to continue working at the local plant after the sale of the company's Smallware Division.

"The consolidation of our Americas Ovens manufacturing and related business activities in one location will improve the service we provide to our customers with easier mixingt of products for shipment, consolidated business operations, and greater reinvestment in product development," said Mike Kachmer, president of Manitowoc Foodservice, in a statement.

Manitowoc said it would invest in a satellite office in the Fort Wayne area for customer service and technical support teams of its Lincoln brand ovens. Those employees support resellers, end users and service agencies, the statement said.

Manitowoc bought Lincoln Foodservice in October 2008.
