Woman, 86, dies in collision with rig

An 86-year-old Fort Wayne woman was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer rig this afternoon, an Allen County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

About 1:15 p.m., first responders were sent to the crash scene on U.S. 24 just east of Doyle Road, Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said.

The woman was driving a car, a red Chrysler, west on U.S. 24 when it crossed the center line and hit the eastbound rig, Tinkel said.

The woman died at the scene. The truck driver, a man, was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Their names were not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
