Last spring I planted cannis roots with the thought that the hummingbirds would discover the flowers. As the season progressed, I began to think that that this wouldn't happen.
My cannis seemed to grow really slow. Perhaps, I didn't water them as much as I should have. I knew they would eventually bloom before the first frost, but I was beginning to think that they would bloom after the hummingbirds left for the season. The male hummingbirds have already migrated south.
Last weekend I saw that a female hummingbird had noticed the blooms. A course I didn't have a camera with a long lens with me. When I came back with such camera, the hummer was gone. I left the camera ready to go in my family room where I had a great view of the cannis through a window. Yesterday, I spotted the hummingbird again at the cannis and was able to take a few shots.
I have also seen the hummingbirds at my hollyhocks, hostas, butterfly bush, cosmos, and weigela bush, but of course didn't have a camera.
