Statement as issued Thursday by Marketing and Communications at Northeastern REMC:
Members reelect three REMC directors, vote “no” to continued IURC regulation
Three directors were reelected to the Northeastern REMC board of directors by cooperative members attending the REMC’s Member Appreciation Night and Annual Meeting Saturday in Fort Wayne.
Marjorie Kennedy Babbitt, a board member for 30 years, will continue representing members in District 3; Thomas Western, a 27 year board member, will represent District 4; and Douglas Schrader who has served on the board for 32 years, will continue as the District 2 representative. The reelected directors will each serve a three year term.
In another vote held during the meeting, members overwhelmingly supported the board of director’s recommendation to opt out of regulation by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC).
Northeastern REMC, which serves over 28,000 homes and businesses in a six county area, was the last of the 38 REMC’s in the state still under IURC regulation.
