Wisconsin scored five runs in the fourth inning and held on to beat the TinCaps 10-8 in Game 3 of the Midwest League championship series Saturday at Parkview Field.
The Timber Rattlers lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is 5:05 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Field.
Here are the highlights.
Key hit: Brandon Macias hit a three-run home run off of reliever Cody Hebner in the fourth to give the Timber Rattlers a 6-3 lead. It was Wisconsin's second home run of the inning.
Key out: Fort Wayne's Duanel Jones came to bat as the tying run in the ninth inning. He struck out to end the game. It was the 13th strikeout for Fort Wayne in the contest.
Tough outing: Fort Wayne starting pitcher Frank Garces gave up five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He had his breaking ball working early, but starting falling behind in counts. Wisconsin took advantage when it got good pitches to hit.
Great play: Fort Wayne had a strong defensive effort. Shortstop Jace Peterson made a nice running catch and then flipped into the stands along the third-base line to end the ninth inning.
Strange numbers: Wisconsin had scored four runs total in Games 1 and 2. The Timber Rattlers put up five runs in the fourth inning.
Up next: James Needy will be on the mound for Fort Wayne in Game 4. He is making his third start of the postseason. Needy went 6-3 with a 1.75 ERA in the regular season.
