Wisconsin wins, takes 2-1 lead in series

Wisconsin grabbed control of the Midwest League championship series, defeating the TinCaps 10-8 in front of 4,939 fans Saturday at Parkview Field.

The Timber Rattlers scored five runs in the fourth inning on the way to taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

Game 4 is 5:05 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Field.

Fort Wayne scored in the first inning. Jace Peterson walked. Tyler Stubblefield then doubled to right field. Peterson scored, giving the TinCaps the 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin tied the game with a run in the third inning. The Timber Rattlers placed runners on first and third with two outs. Chadwin Stang hit a grounder back to the mound. Pitcher Frank Garces couldn't field it cleanly. Adrian Williams scored on the infield hit.

Fort Wayne regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Stubblefield doubled with one out. Travis Whitmore then hit a grounder back to the mound. Wisconsin got Stubblefield in a rundown, but he avoided a tag at third base. Whitmore moved to second on the fielder's choice.

Yeison Asencio then hit a triple down the right-field line. Stubblefield and Whitmore scored, making it 3-1.

The lead didn't last long.

Nick Ramirez led off Wisconsin's fourth inning with an opposite-field home run to left field.

With two outs, Rafael Neda walked. Lance Roenicke followed with a single.

Williams then singled to left, bringing home Neda to tie the game at 3.

Cody Hebner replaced Garces. He got up two strikes on Brandon Macias. Macias worked the count full and then hit a three-run home run to left field.

Fort Wayne scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. Stubblefield walked. He moved to third on a two-out single by Asencio.

With Lee Orr up, David Goforth threw a wild pitch. Stubblefield scored, cutting the deficit to 6-4.

The Timber Rattlers scored once in the seventh and three more runs in the eighth.

Fort Wayne came back with two in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10-6. Stubblefield came to bat representing the tying run. He flew out to right.

The TinCaps scored a run in the ninth on an RBI double to right by Austin Hedges. Fort Wayne placed runners on second and third with one out.

Jeremy Baltz grounded out to short, bringing home Lee Orr to make it 10-8. Duanel Jones struck out to end the game.

James Needy will start Game 4 for the TinCaps. Chad Thompson will pitch for the Timber Rattlers.
