Wisconsin captured the Midwest League championship, defeating Fort Wayne 4-2 in front of 2,390 fans Sunday at Parkview Field.
Nick Ramirez hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to give the Timber Rattlers the lead. Wisconsin won the series 3-1.
Brandon Macias led off the seventh with a double off of relief pitcher Luis De La Cruz. He moved to third on a bunt. Ben McMahan walked.
Brandon Alger replaced De La Cruz. Ramirez then doubled to right field, knocking in both runs.
It's the first Midwest League crown for the Timber Rattlers.
Wisconsin wasted little time scoring. In the first inning, Macias hit a double on the first pitch of the game by James Needy. Chadwin Stang then singled to left. The ball got past Jeremy Baltz and rolled to the wall. Macias scored on the error.
Max Walla hit a solo home run to right field in the second inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
Fort Wayne tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third.
Jace Peterson singled and Tyler Stubblefield walked. Yeison Asencio then hit a pop-up down the right-field line. Wisconsin second baseman Adrian Williams ran a long way, but couldn't catch the ball. Peterson scored on the double, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Travis Whitmore followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Stubblefield and tie the game.
It remained tied until the double by Ramirez.
