Crash leaves 1 with broken neck

A woman was charged after a crash early Saturday sent a rural Columbia City man to a hospital with a broken neck, state police said.

Michael Grim, 47, was a passenger in a car driven by Susan R. Janes, 45, also of rural Columbia City.

At 3:25 a.m., Janes was driving north on Willow Avenue near Shriner Lake when her car went off the road and over a curb, hitting a parked car, police said.

Janes was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She had a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.

Grim suffered a broken neck and was taken to a hospital, police said.
