Kroger Co. said Wednesday it is recalling certain Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach 10-ounce packages (UPC: 0001111091649) in 15 states, including Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, with a "best if used by" date of Sept. 16.
This product, supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods LLC, may contain Listeria monocytogenes, the company said in a statement. Listeria monocytogenes, if eaten, could result in severe illness to people who are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, the statement said.
It said any opened or unopened products included in this recall should be returned to a local store for a full refund or replacement.
In Indiana, the product was sold at both Kroger and Scott's stores, the company said.
Kroger said it has removed affected items from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system. Customers who may have purchased the affected products will receive register receipt messages and/or automated phone calls. Kroger is also placing signs in stores in produce departments.
