Restaurant offers free sample of award-winning wings

Good -- really good -- buffalo wings are hard to come by. The sauce has to be flavorful with the right amount of heat, but not so much that your taste buds are dead for the next three days. The wing should be coated in sauce, but not so concentrated that the wing is lost in a pile of goop. And the wing should have enough meat on it for a substantial bite, but not so rubbery you're spitting out mouthfuls of fat.

Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill (a national chain with a local store at 1203 Apple Glen Blvd.) took top honors earlier this month for its wing sauce at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, NY.

Hundreds of vendors from across the country vied for the top spots, but it was Smokey Bones' Buff-A-Que wing sauce that beat the rest in a blind taste test. The festival awards a number of honors, and Smokey Bones won in the Best Traditional Medium category.

Want to try this award-winning sauce? Through Sept. 30, Smokey Bones is offering a free sample of wings. Just ask your server for a sample, or print out a coupon from the restaurant's Facebook page.
