Fort Wayne men held in Berne-area attacks

Two Fort Wayne men have been arrested, accused of attacks in rural Adams County near Berne.

Alejandro Lopez, 18, and David Veliz, 19, have been detained, pending charges of armed robbery and criminal confinement, according to a written statement issued Wednesday by the Adams County Prosecutor's Office. Formal charges are expected to be filed Thursday.

A juvenile was also being held in connection with the attacks, the statement said.

The masked assailants were in a light gray or light green station wagon, similar to a Chevrolet HHR or Chrysler PT Cruiser, the sheriff's department said Tuesday. The vehicle had damage to the rear driver-side door and to the rear passenger-side quarter panel, the release said.

Sheriff Shane Rekeweg has not described the specific nature of Monday's attacks, although he did say that those who were attacked were members of the Amish community. He said no one was taken to a hospital.
