In the latest bit of golf silliness, "anchoring" putters is bannedWell, so now we know.
Matt Lindsay was fired for what boils down to electronic voyeurism. And of a particularly creepy variety, given that it apparently involved not only young people he was entrusted with nurturing, but others as well.
And so what was already a sad situation becomes sadder yet -- if not tragic, in the sense not that Lindsay himself ruined a lifetime of service to Bishop Luers, but because he victimized the very people he was supposed to be serving. It's those people with whom all of our sympathies should be today.
The Diocese, meanwhile, gets credit for going public with this, even if its hand was forced by media scrutiny that would have brought it to light, anyway. Keeping the public in the dark about this not only would have been a disservice to the young people Lindsay victimized, it would have been a disservice to Lindsay as well.
The Diocese cast it mainly as the former, saying in so many words that its charge is to protect those under its care. This is exactly correct, as is making it public, especially given the fact that the Catholic hierarchy has not always been as forthright in the past.
Good to see it happen this time.
