FORT WAYNE -- While the state continues to dispute federal job statistics, the Fort Wayne metropolitan area saw unemployment drop to 7.5 percent in August – the fifth month-over-month drop of the year, Indiana Department of Workforce Development figures showed Friday.
Joblessness in the metropolitan area – consisting of Allen, Whitley and Wells counties – saw fewer people out of work in August. The previous month’s unemployment rate was 7.6 percent.
The state, meanwhile, saw its seasonally adjusted jobless rate rise to 8.3 percent, up from 8.2 percent in July.
