Just a lovely book.

Lara's Library (Sort Of): Circular Knitting Workshop

You can never have enough patterns for simple, round stuff.

You can also never have too many ways to think about kitchener stitch. I love Margaret's "mantra."

I had a lovely chat with Margaret Radcliffe way back in show 121. She is undeniably charming and incredibly smart. I'm happy to say that her book is, too.

Circular Knitting Workshop covers everything you ever wanted to know about knitting around, but didn't know enough to ask.

Some of the typography in this book reminds me of the menu for a Bistro in Manhattan. Clean and pretty, but it could be hard to read for some people. Fortunately, the fancier type is only used for headings and things like that. Actual instructions are very legible.

Also, and this is just a very small pet peeve, sometimes type is reversed onto a dark background. It doesn't bother me, but if you like to photocopy patterns to carry around in your knitting bag, pay attention and make sure copies are as clear as you need.

The book opens with a few notes about the advantages of knitting circularly, and guide to techniques, including a special section on finishing and converting flat patterns to circular knitting.

There is then a series of "workshop projects." Start with a tube, move on to bags/hats, wrap it up with scarves/shawls, deal with socks, mittens/gloves and, lastly, vests and sweaters.

This is not, primarily, a pattern book (although there are patterns in it). Rather, it is an exploration, with a lot of signposts leading the knitter on to their own adventures.

Also, the photography, layout, and instructions are crystal-clear and attractive. What more could you want?
