Patient charged in threat on guard

A man being treated at Lutheran Hospital last weekend is accused of wielding a knife and trying to stab a security officer.

Allen County prosecutors charged Michael Fairburn, 40, of the 1400 block of Ewing Street, with felony criminal recklessness and misdemeanor battery Thursday.

According to Allen Superior Court documents, Fairburn was being treated at Lutheran on Sunday. When a security officer was called to Fairburn’s room, he found Fairburn holding a knife, court documents said.

Fairburn pointed the knife at the officer and also punched him, a witness told police, the court documents said.

Fairburn later admitted to punching the security officer but denied trying to cut him, court records said. He was being held in lieu of $3,250.
